Nursing Home Admission
This page includes information on the type of residents accepted for admission by the facility as indicated by the facility’s response to the CANHR questionnaire. The facility could respond “yes” to indicate that the category of resident is accepted; “no” if they do not accept that type of resident; or “evaluate” if admission depends upon the initial assessment of the resident.
The age category is particularly important if the resident is young, as residents 18-30 (or even those under 60) who have capacity would almost always prefer to be placed in a facility with other residents of or close to their own age.
Some residents with special needs will be harder to place, as some facilities are not equipped to provide care to certain resident populations.
Ventilator-dependent residents, for example, will be limited to those facilities with specially trained staff who can provide ventilator care. See
"special needs definitions" below for more information on each category.
Continuing Care Contract Facilities offer all levels of long term care, including independent living, residential care (assisted living) and nursing home care. Most of these facilities reserve preference to residents of their community, but some will accept outside residents.
If the facility did not respond to the CANHR questionnaire, limited admission information is available for that facility.
